Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which contaminants does AquaTru remove?
There are three types of contaminants in water: organic and inorganic chemicals and biological contaminants. AquaTru is designed to remove all three types of water contaminants.
AquaTru Classic, Connect and Under Sink models have been tested and certified to NSF standards to remove 83 contaminants by IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials www.iapmo.org) throughout the recommended filter life.
Aquatru Carafe has passed contaminant removal testing for eighty-two contaminants and one contaminant is still undergoing testing. While this third-party testing has been conducted, IAPMO certification is still pending on this model.
2. Is AquaTru certified to remove contaminants?

3. How often do filters need to be changed/replaced?
Classic Countertop and Under Sink purifiers use the same filters and have the same expected filter life, with the exception of VOC Filter.
Please see recommended replacement frequency below:
Pre-Filter (yellow): 6 months or 600 gallons, whichever comes first
RO Filter (blue): 2 years or 1200 gallons, whichever comes first
VOC Filter (green): 1 year or 360 gallons (Under Sink), 600 gallons (Countertop) whichever comes first
Carafe purifiers use their own line of filters not interchangeable with our other purifiers. Please see recommended replacement frequency below:
AquaTru Carafe Pre-Filter: 6 months or 300 gallons
AquaTru Carafe Reverse Osmosis Filter: 2 years or 600 gallons
AquaTru Carafe VOC Carbon Filter: 1 year or 300 gallons

4. How do I know when to change my filters?
Watch for the replace filter alert to signal it’s time to insert new filters
General time frame to change filters:
Pre-Filter (yellow): 6 months or 600 gallons, whichever comes first
RO Filter (blue): 2 years or 1200 gallons, whichever comes first
VOC Filter (green): 1 year or 600 gallons, whichever comes first
5. How much do replacement filters cost?
Please find your options for replacement filters here. Save more by purchasing a Combo Pack.
The Classic Countertop and Under Sink models use the same filters. However, the Carafe Countertop has its own filters that are not interchangeable with our other models.
6. Is Reverse Osmosis (RO) bad for health?
There is no evidence that RO water is harmful to human health. Humans get the minerals they need from the food they eat. Rain water, which is nature’s original water, has almost no minerals.
7. What’s different about AquaTru’s RO process?
AquaTru is powered by its patented 4-stage Ultra Reverse Osmosis™ purification technology.
In Stage 1, the water passes through a mechanical pre-filter that removes larger particles like sediment and rust.
Stage 2 is the carbon filter that removes Chlorine and Chloramines.
In Stage 3, a high-pressure pump pushes the water through the reverse osmosis membrane, filtering out dangerous inorganic chemicals, including lead, chromium 6, arsenic, uranium, nitrates and dozens of other harmful contaminants.
And in Stage 4, the water passes through our activated coconut block filter, which removes organic compounds like rocket fuel, prescription drug residue and PFAS, and leaves you with pure, great-tasting water.
AquaTru works by recirculating water through the filters multiple times. This process flushes the filters to optimize performance and leaves concentrated contaminants in the tap water tank so you can easily discard it, making it highly efficient.
In fact, while traditional under the sink reverse osmosis systems can be highly inefficient (wasting anywhere from 2-5 gallons of water for every 1 gallon of purified water produced!), AquaTru produces 3/4 gallon of purified water for every 1 gallon of water that is filtered. That means you’re left with only 1/4 gallon of waste water that can be used to rinse dishes or even water your lawn.
8. When I buy an AquaTru water purifier are filters included?
Yes. Each AquaTru water purifier includes three filters: 1. Pre/Carbon (yellow) 2. Reverse Osmosis (blue) 3. VOC (green)
9. Can AquaTru filter hard water?
We do not recommend that AquaTru is used with water in excess of 10 gpg (grain per gallon) hardness, unless the water is softened prior to filtering in AquaTru, or unless you regularly complete our DESCALING MAINTENANCE.
AquaTru is intended for water with hardness below 10 gpg. If the hardness is higher, lime scale will build up on the membrane inside the Reverse Osmosis filter, causing build up, and increasing filtering time. The result is more frequent descaling maintenance and RO filter replacement.
